Sfânta Evanghelie de la Matei 8, 5-13
„În vremea aceea, pe când Iisus intra în Capernaum, s-a apropiat de El un sutaș, rugându-L și zicând: Doamne, sluga mea zace în casă, slăbănog, chinuindu-se cumplit. Și i-a zis Iisus: Venind îl voi vindeca. Dar sutașul, răspunzând, I-a zis: Doamne, nu sunt vrednic să intri sub acoperișul meu, ci numai spune un cuvânt și se va vindeca sluga mea. Că și eu sunt om sub stăpânirea altora și am sub mine ostași și-i spun acestuia: Du-te, și se duce; și celuilalt: Vino, și vine; și slugii mele: Fă aceasta, și face. Auzind, Iisus S-a minunat și a zis celor ce veneau după El: Adevărat grăiesc vouă: Nici în Israel n-am găsit atâta credință. Și zic vouă că mulți de la răsărit și de la apus vor veni și vor sta la masă cu Avraam, cu Isaac și cu Iacov în Împărăția Cerurilor. Iar fiii Împărăției vor fi aruncați în întunericul cel mai din afară; acolo va fi plângerea și scrâșnirea dinților. Și a zis Iisus sutașului: Du-te, fie ție după cum ai crezut. Și s-a însănătoșit sluga lui în ceasul acela.”

„When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.” Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?” The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that very hour.”
